Posted on Feb 21 2010 by Derek Tipton

Ok so I know that I said the next post would be from a Kauai wedding, but my good friend Andres put together a surprise proposal for his girl! This took the effort of several people to get the unsuspecting girlfriend to the Montana De Oro state park in Morro bay! Woke up at 7am on Saturday to drive over to the coast and didn’t get back until 11pm, it was long but so much fun! Went down like magic and there will be a new wedding to add later in the year. I am so grateful to have been ask to capture these moments and if you want to plan a special something like this and have it captured just ask  =)
Off to Kauai in a few days!

Band shoot on white

Posted on Feb 4 2010 by Derek Tipton

Here are a few recent images from a band shoot I did on white. Using some tile board and a three light set up, I was pleased with the results and dig the clean white look. He makes, writes and records all his own music at his apartment. Check out this bands site at: http://www.myspace.com/hopelesspassion

Next post should be some images from an upcoming wedding taking place on the island of Kauai!

Panama

In the beginning of January 2010, I had the great opportunity to travel with some family and visit our friend’s who live in Panama central America. The trip was a great experience, fun, adventurous, scary, exciting and I can’t wait to go back! I always love going to foreign countries. It makes me appreciate all the small things even more and not to mention my love for America. Traveling shows me how important it is to recognize that the world is filled with people who need love, help, encouragement, etc. Not only in under developed countries, but also here in the USA. We are surrounded by so many things that distract us from general human compassion, consideration and contact. We have become people who care about “I”, ipods, icoffee, icomputers, ijobs, imoney, icar, ilarge homes, ifashion, ikhakis (movie reference) and so on. If you have never traveled out side of the US I would encourage you do to so. However, go to a country who has developmental issues. Cost too much money to travel? Go down town, volunteer at the rescue mission/family shelters. Change your paradigm, change your world view. One such trip for me was to Africa. I don’t have much of my Africa pictures posted but you can check out a few here. I don’t want to come off as “too hippy”, but people need love and compassion. Around the world, or while you are in line some where. When you start thinking “I” stop and think about others too, give a simple smile even if YOU think that don’t deserve it. =)

While in Panama, I was able to see first hand how a missionary provides and gives to the jungle tribes and villages. Promoting economic growth, development, housing, and aid of various kinds etc. I donated $100 worth in the form of corn seed, food for pigs, and tools for a village while I was there. If you want to help support their efforts please visit http://www.panamamission.org/. Currently the boat used to travel to these villages was partially sunk in a flash flood and the engine was ruined in November. We had to 4×4 and then hike about 15 miles (24 kilometers) in to this village. The weather was about 93f (33c) and around 80-85% humidity. A trip that would take 4hrs by boat took almost all day, and I was lugging camera gear! Here are some pics.

I have been super busy recently and I am glad to have time to post this now! This was a combo of some senior/family pics back in the beginning of November. I have been shooting a lot at the park, but the fall colors are so great I can’t pass it up!

Here are a few pics from a recent session for some armature skateboarders out of Madera, CA. These guys were getting super big air out of the 9ft deep end pool of the Selma skate park, probably around 5ft above the pool coping! I am having some 20×30 posters made for them to hang in their sponsor’s shop Viva Skateboards out of Madera. Decided to develop in black and white for an edgy look, and I miss shooting b&w film!

Courtney & Josh Engagement!

Its so nice to have the fall colors back! This awesome couple from Sacramento, CA was so fun to work with and we had a blast for about 2hrs. Changing it up, trying some new ideas, I am really happy with the way these came out. The sun sinks so fast on the horizon here now after the day light savings time change, that it didn’t even seem like 2hrs of shooting. Even though one of my light stands broke due to full extension and a fall over, this was a good day! I look forward to possibly shooting their wedding in 2011. Thanks your two for being so fun!
